Can Medical AI Forget?
The right to withdraw data becomes incomplete if its influence remains embedded in the model.
Deleting a patient’s record does not necessarily remove what a trained medical AI model has learned from it. In a perspective article, Porter and colleagues argue that machine unlearning—the targeted removal of specific training-data influence—should become part of clinical AI governance. The methods remain technically challenging, but the governance question is already here.
